What Google Sitemap is for?

In general, there are two types of Sitemaps.
1. type of sitemap page to HTML page containing a list of your site, and is intended to help users find the information they need.

2. XML Sitemaps - Sitemaps is usually activated with the script that you get from google sitemap template and then install to your website - is a way for you to provide information about your site to Google.

In simple terms, Sitemap is a list of pages on your website. Create and submit a Sitemap helps make sure that Google knows about all the pages on your site, including URLs that may not by Google monitored to normal.

Sitemap extremely helpful if:

* Your site has dynamic content.
* Your site has pages that are not easily discovered by Googlebot during the crawl process on your site - for example, a page that is rich in graphics or Flash. * New site and has some links to other pages. (Googlebot crawls the web following links from one page to another, so if your site is not connected properly, it may be hard for Googlebot to find it.)
* Website content you have archived a large page, that does not connect well with one another, or not connected at all.

You can also use a Sitemap to Google to provide additional information about your page, including:

* How often is a page on your site change. For example, you can post perminggu update the page, but update the "About Me" page only once every few months.
* Date last modified each page.
* Setting weight (priority) in the pages on your site Googlebot. For example, you may have a home page that were given weight by Googlebot 1.0, category pages have a weight of 0.8, and individual blog entries or product pages have a weight of 0.5. This priority only indicates the importance of a specific URL with the URL in your site, and does not affect the ranking on the search results page.

Sitemaps provide additional information about your site to Google, the site is never penalized for submitting Sitemaps.

Google adheres to Sitemap Protocol 0.9 as defined by sitemaps.org. The Sitemap Protocol is a term from the XML Sitemap for summary information relevant to web crawlers. Sitemaps created for Google using Sitemap Protocol 0.9 as it is compatible with other search engines that adopt the standard sitemaps.org.

While the standard Sitemap works for most sites, you can also create and submit Sitemaps for certain types of special searchengine. Google Sitemap format is specific to the google search engine and is not used by other search engines.
